Install RingSync on iOS and grant Contacts permission

Before you start

Make sure your IT admin has:

  • Connected your company's Entra ID tenant to RingSync.
  • Assigned your Microsoft account to the RingSync app in Entra (via Enterprise Applications → RingSync → Users and Groups in the Azure portal), or confirmed you are a member of an assigned group.

If you are not yet assigned, the app will sign you in but show no directories. Contact your IT admin.

Step 1 — Download the app

Search for RingSync on the App Store, or open ringsync.io/app on your iPhone (it is also the link your IT team may have sent you). Tap Get and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password.

Step 2 — Sign in with Microsoft

  1. Open the app. You will see the Welcome to RingSync screen with a single button: Continue with Microsoft.
  2. Tap it. You are taken to the standard Microsoft sign-in screen (hosted by login.microsoftonline.com).
  3. Select or enter your work or school account. Do not use a personal Microsoft account.
  4. Complete any MFA challenge your organisation requires (Authenticator app, SMS, etc.).
  5. If this is your first sign-in, Microsoft may show a permissions consent screen listing what RingSync is requesting. These are identity-only permissions (openid, profile, email) — RingSync does not request access to your mailbox, files, or any other data at this step. Tap Accept.

You are redirected back to the app and land on the Directories screen.

Step 3 — Grant Contacts permission

On first sync, iOS will prompt you to allow RingSync to access your contacts:

"RingSync" Would Like to Access Your Contacts RingSync needs this access to save your company directory to your phone.

Tap Allow (not "Don't Allow"). RingSync requests write-only access — it writes contacts to your address book but does not read your existing personal contacts.

If you tapped Don't Allow

If you denied the permission, contacts cannot be written. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Contacts → RingSync and set it to Allow access. Then return to the app and sync.

Step 4 — Run your first sync

  1. On the Directories screen, you will see a card for each directory your IT admin has granted you access to.
  2. Tap a directory card to expand it, then tap Sync now.
  3. A progress screen shows the sync running. On the first run, all contacts are fetched (full sync). This may take 1–2 minutes for large directories.
  4. When complete, the card shows how many contacts were added. Open your phone's Contacts app to confirm they appear.

Troubleshooting

  • No directories visible: Your Microsoft account is not yet assigned in Entra. Contact your IT admin.
  • Sync completes but no contacts appear: The Contacts permission was not granted. See Step 3 above.
  • Sign-in fails with "Your account or password is incorrect": Use your work email, not a personal account.
  • Sign-in fails with "You don't have access to this application": Your account has not been assigned in Entra. Contact your IT admin.
