Overview
What RingSync is
RingSync mirrors your corporate directory into the native contacts app on your team's phones. Once a directory is connected, each employee signs in with their work account, picks the directories they have access to, and syncs the matching colleagues straight into their phone's address book.
Synchronization is one-way: directory → phone. The phone is a read-only mirror of the source directory. Any change to a person's details must be made in the directory (Entra ID or Google Workspace), never on the device.
The no-storage model
RingSync never stores contact records on its servers. Contact data exists only in two places: in your source directory, and on the phones that synced it.
When a phone runs a sync, the RingSync backend acts as a proxy: it authenticates to the directory provider server-side (Microsoft Graph client_credentials, or a Google service account / OAuth refresh token), streams one page of users at a time to the device, and forgets it. The device writes the contacts locally and reports per-contact outcomes for logging. The database only ever holds tracking and configuration metadata (sync jobs, logs, settings, grants) — not names, emails, or phone numbers.
No directory contact ever lands in a third-party database. If a person is removed or de-provisioned in your directory, RingSync can wipe the matching contacts from devices — selectively, per directory.
Supported directory providers
Both providers are generally available:
- Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) — via Microsoft Graph. See Connecting Entra ID.
- Google Workspace — via the Admin SDK Directory API. See Connecting Google Workspace.
General prerequisites
Before you start, make sure you have:
- A RingSync back-office account (the first sign-in silently creates your organization).
- Administrative access to your directory: a Global Administrator role in Entra ID, or a Super Admin in Google Workspace.
- The ability to grant admin consent (Entra) or authorize domain-wide delegation (Google).
- Devices running the RingSync mobile app, with contacts permission granted.
RingSync starts every organization on the Starter plan with a 14-day trial that begins when you connect your first directory. Group selection and exclusion are Pro and above. See the in-app billing screen for current limits.
